BSA’s decision on P.S. 64 upheld

Developer’s plan to build dorm requires connection to a local school. In 1999, the City auctioned off the lot at 605 East 9th Street, containing the former P.S. 64 building, to Gregg Singer by a deed restricting it to a community facilities use under the zoning code. Beaux-Arts horse-mart calendared

1904 building one of last remaining horse auction mart buildings in city. At its August 8th meeting, Landmarks calendared the Van Tassel & Kearney Horse Auction Mart for possible designation as an individual landmark. The Horse Mart, at 126 East 13th Street in the East Village, was designed by the New York architecture firm of Jardine, Kent & Jardine in the Beaux-Arts style. Whitney Museum gets variance for addition

Whitney Museum’s programmatic needs warrant variances for height, floor area, and retail space. On July 25, 2006, BSA granted variances to the Whitney Museum of American Art in the Upper East Side Historic District, Manhattan. The additions, including a nine-story, 178-foot Renzo Piano-designed tower required variances for height, setback, floor area, and frontage.

Special permit for retail use issued for Plaza Hotel

Owner required additional permit to complete Plaza Hotel’s conversion plan. When El-Ad Properties bought the Plaza Hotel in October 2004, it proposed to convert the hotel’s 805 rooms into luxury residential condos and use the hotel’s banquet rooms, meeting spaces and existing retail as high-end retail destinations.
