On Friday, January 17, 2020, Department of Education Chancellor Richard Carranza spoke at the 165th CityLaw Breakfast at New York Law School. Chancellor Carranza was introduced by Professor Ross Sandler, Director of the Center for New York City Law, with opening remarks by Dean Anthony W. Crowell. Chancellor Carranza spoke on the importance of investing in the City’s students and ensuring resources are provided for their success.


Landmarks Rescind Landmarks Designation Status of Former School

The landmarked building featured many late Gothic details. On December 10, 2019, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to rescind the individual landmark designation of a vacant lot, located at 425 Grand Concourse, Bronx. The lot was formerly the location of Public School 31, which was demolished in 2015.



Inwood NYC Action Plan Progress Update Released

The Plan will use over $200 million in public investment. On October 2, 2019 Deputy Mayor Vicki Been, NYCEDC President and CEO James Patchett and City Officials from NYC Parks, Department of Cultural Affairs, Department of Education, Department of Small Business Services, Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD), New York Public Library, and Council Member Ydanis Rodríguez shared an update on the Inwood NYC Action Plan.


Edgemere Commons Developers Address Remaining Concerns at Council Hearing

Council Member Richards makes sure developers keep promises. On October 3, 2019, City Council’s Subcommittee on Zoning and Franchises held a public hearing on Rockaway Limited Partnership’s application to redevelop the former Peninsula Hospital site into “Edgemere Commons.” The proposed development is located in Far Rockaway Queens, north of Rockaway Beach Boulevard, south of Beach Channel Drive east of Beach 53rd Street and west of Beach 50th Street.
