Council Approves Bill to Report on Affordable Housing and Renters with Disabilities

On February 2, 2023, the New York City Council passed Local Law 25 of 2023. The new law was originally introduced by Council Member Diana Ayala as Introduction 375-2022A. The new law will require the Department of Housing Preservation and Development to report every three years on how many of their affordable housing units set aside for and rented to persons with disabilities.




HPD Releases Request for Proposals to Find Tenant Organizing Groups for Partners in Preservation Program

On March 22, 2023, the Department of Housing, Preservation and Development (HPD) announced the release of a request for proposals (RFP) for tenant organizing groups to expand the Partners in Preservation program. The program preserves rent-regulated housing units and supports tenant organizers who work with the agency and tenants to fight harassment, displacement, and poor living conditions. 


Mayor Appoints Nestor Davidson as Rent Guidelines Board Chair

On March 10, 2023, Mayor Eric Adams announced the appointment of Nestor Davidson as the new chair of the New York City Rent Guidelines Board. The Rent Guidelines Board is responsible for establishing rent adjustments for the over one million dwelling units subject to the Rent Stabilization Law. The Board consists of nine members who are all appointed by the Mayor. 


Landmarks Holds Public Hearing for Proposed Linden Street Historic District in Bushwick

On February 28, 2023, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing for the proposed Linden Street Historic District, located in Bushwick, Brooklyn.
