HPD and Project Partners Celebrate New Supportive and Affordable Housing Complex in Morris Heights

On May 24, 2023, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development joined project partners Services for the Underserved and Bronx Pro Group LLC to celebrate a housewarming for the newly opened Jerome Court redevelopment. Located at 1769 Jerome Avenue in the Morris Heights section of the Bronx, the space was transformed from a two-story single-use occupancy building to a 16-story mixed use building with supportive and affordable housing.

Council Passes Bill to Include High School Students in Ferry Discount Program

On March 16, 2023, the NYC Council approved Council Member Amanda Farías’s bill, Int. 0236-2022, that will reduce NYC Ferry’s fares for NYC high school students by including them in the NYC Ferry Discount Program.

On April 27, 2023, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development and NYC Health + Hospitals celebrated the groundbreaking for the Comunilife Throop Residence, a new 93-unit apartment building at 171 Throop Avenue at the NYC Health + Hospitals/Woodhull campus in Brooklyn.

Landmarks Designates Linden Street Historic District in Bushwick

On May 9, 2023, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to designate the Linden Street Historic District in Bushwick. The district consists of 32 brick and brownstone row houses located from 3 through 13 Linden Street on the south side of the street and 15 through 55 Linden Street on the north side of the street between Bushwick Avenue and Broadway. The historic district is the first within Bushwick.

DCP Announces New Zoning Relief Proposal for South Richmond Homeowners

On April 3, 2023, the New York City Department of City Planning announced its South Richmond Zoning Relief proposal after years of planning with Staten Island communities in the Special South Richmond Development District of the South Shore. City Agencies Announce Water Supply Improvements and Traffic Redesigns Along Ninth Avenue in Midtown

On March 21, 2023, elected officials and agency officials from the Department of Design and Construction, Transportation, and Environmental Protection announced the completion of a $231 million upgrade in the water distribution system and road reconstruction along Ninth Avenue, one of Midtown’s major corridors. The investment also included safety improvements and street redesign enhancements to reclaim more space for pedestrians and decrease congestion.
