Far West Village rezoning approved

Council down-zoned lots with pending development. The Council rezoned 14 blocks of Greenwich Village west of Washington Street, replacing manufacturing and commercial zoning in the area with contextual zoning districts. HPD Celebrates Opening of 171 Affordable Apartments in the South Bronx

On October 28, 2024, the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development, in collaboration with other critical stakeholders celebrated the opening of Melrose North, a new building with 171 affordable apartments. Of the 171 affordable homes, 103 of the housing units are allocated for formerly homeless individuals and families. The apartments are located at the New York City Housing Authority’s Morrisania Air Rights campus in South Bronx and has a ramp for accessibility.


Governor and Mayor Celebrate Over 600 Letters of Intent for 421-a Extension Program

On October 16, 2024, New York City Mayor Eric Adams and New York Governor Kathy Hochul celebrated the milestone of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) receiving Letters of Intent for approximately 650 buildings through the 421-a extension tax incentive program. HPD Announces Start of 2024-2025 Heat Season

On October 1, 2024, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development announced the launch of the 2024-2025 heat season. Heat season runs from October 1st to May 31st. During heat season, building owners must maintain specific indoor temperatures depending on the outdoor temperature. Owners must maintain indoor temperatures at 68 degrees when outdoor temperatures are below 55 degrees during the daytime and a minimum of 62 degrees indoors overnight regardless of the outdoor temperature. NYCHA Secures Funding for Frederick Samuel Apartments Renovations

On September 26, 2024, the New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA) announced renovations will be conducted at the Frederick Samuel Apartments through the Permanent Affordability Commitment Together (PACT) project. Since, 1994 the New York City Housing Authority has managed the Frederick Samuel Apartments, which were constructed between 1910 and 1928.
