Mayor’s Executive Order Strengthens Fire Safety Enforcement and Education
The coordinated efforts will enhance inspections and increase fire safety outreach for residents, building owners and buildings. On March 20, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams signed a new Executive Order to strengthen fire safety enforcement and increase fire safety education. The executive order follows the aftermath of the Twin Parks fire this past January, where seventeen people were killed after a fire spread through an apartment building in the Bronx.
City Agencies Announce Completion of Expansion of Montefiore Square in West Harlem
Some of the upgrades include new benches, lighting, and trees. On January 27, 2022, the Departments of Design and Construction (DDC), Transportation (DOT), Environmental Protection (DEP), and Parks and Recreation announced the completion of renovations to Montefiore Square in Harlem. Montefiore Square is a triangular plaza located between West 138th Street, Hamilton Place and Broadway.

A new plan is released every ten years. On December 19, 2021, the Department of City Planning released the Comprehensive Waterfront Plan, a 10-year vision for the 520 miles of waterfront citywide. The plan aims to provide more equitable access to waterfronts.
DCP Launches Capital Planning Explorer Website
On December 20, 2021, the Department of City Planning announced the release of the new Capital Planning Explorer, an interactive website that builds on an existing map of city facilities with added details about all City-funded capital projects and geographic views of housing permits. The website’s goal is to make capital planning more transparent.
