City Celebrates Office of Environmental Remediation’s Successful Cleaning of 165 Acres of Land, New Housing and Schools

On December 10, 2024, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced the City, with the assistance of the Office of Environmental Remediation (OER), has transformed 165 acres of previously unusable contaminated land into clean space for 28,000 units of housing, 12,000 of which are affordable housing units, 16 new schools, 2.9 million square feet of community space, and 6.1 million square feet of commercial space.


City Creates New Program to Help Affordable Housing Projects Go Green

On September 26, 2024, New York City Mayor Eric Adams announced the creation of the GreenHOUSE Fund to improve compliance with Local Law 97 for owners of buildings with affordable housing. Since 2019, Local Law 97 has required the majority of buildings over 25,000 square feet to meet new energy-efficient and greenhouse gas emissions requirements. The City’s ongoing climate goals include having the largest buildings produce zero emissions by 2050 and improving air quality.


City Announces Largest Civil Rights Settlement for Housing Discrimination

On August 22, 2024, New York City Mayor Eric Adams and the New York City Commission on Human Rights announced the largest civil rights settlement in New York City history. City Officials Celebrate Opening of Casa Celina, 100 Percent Affordable Senior Housing in Soundview

On June 11, 2024, officials from the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, New York CIty Housing Authority, and New York City Housing Development Corporation celebrated the opening of Casa Celina, a building for New York’s seniors featuring over 200 new affordable units. The building is located on NYCHA’s Justice Sonia Sotomayor campus in the Soundview section of the Bronx.
