On June 28, 2022, the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to designate Cambria Heights-222nd Street Historic District and Cambria Heights-227th Street Historic District. LPC Celebrates New Historic District Markers for Dorrance Brooks Square Historic District in Harlem
On February 23, 2022, the Landmarks Preservation Commission, the New York Landmarks Preservation Foundation (NYLPF), and the Dorrance Brooks Property Owners and Residents Association celebrated last year’s designation of the Dorrance Brooks Square Historic District with new historic district markers.
Brooklyn’s East 25th Street Historic District Receives Historic District Marker
The markers commemorate Flatbush’s first historic district. On December 8, 2021, the Landmarks Preservation Commission revealed the historic district marker that will commemorate the East 25th Street Historic District in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. The historic district, which runs on East 25th Street between Clarendon Road and Avenue D, was designated last year.
LPC Holds Public Hearing for Two Proposed Historic Districts in Cambria Heights
Residents raised concerns about the cost and difficulty in maintaining special details and features. On September 14, 2021, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing for two proposed historic districts in Cambria Heights, Queens. The Cambria Heights-222nd Street Historic District and the Cambria Heights-227th Street Historic District are both well-preserved examples of the Tudor Revival and Storybook styles and of the 1930s suburban expansion in Queens.
Landmarks Calendars Proposed Historic District in Harlem
The proposed district is in two sections and prominently features many rowhouses. On February 2, 2021, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to calendar the Dorrance Brooks Square Historic District in Harlem for future designation. The greater proposed historic district represents the area’s significant connection to the Harlem Renaissance and advancements in politics, education, healthcare, literature and culture.
Landmarks Designates East 25th Street Historic District
Residents led the efforts to preserve the block from future development. On November 17, 2020, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to designate the East 25th Street Historic District in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn. The East 25th Street Historic District consists of 56 row houses on both sides of East 25th Street between Clarendon Road and Avenue D in Flatbush, Brooklyn.
