On June 18, 2024, New York City Mayor Eric Adams and New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (NYC Parks) Commissioner Sue Donoghue celebrated the launch of the Let’s Swim NYC program. The program provides citizens throughout the five boroughs with improved access to pools to protect them against the summer heat, and to offer New Yorkers the opportunity to learn about water safety.

Council Holds Public Hearing Challenging Current Broker Fees System
On June 12, 2024, the City Council Committee on Consumer and Worker Protection held a public hearing on Int. 360, sponsored by Council Member Chi A. Ossé. The bill, known as the FARE (Fairness in Apartment Rental Expenses) Act, ensures that the party hiring a broker, whether tenant or landlord, is responsible for paying the broker.

On May 23, 2024, the New York City Housing Authority, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development and the New York City Housing Development Corporation celebrated the completion of the Atrium at Sumner project, a new eleven-story residence for seniors. The new building was constructed on underutilized land at the NYCHA Sumner Houses campus between Park and Myrtle Avenues in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.
Updated: City Beaches to Open for Memorial Day Weekend
On Saturday, May 25, 2024, New York City beaches will open for swimming for the summer. During the beach season, lifeguards will be on duty daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Swimming is not prohibited when lifeguards are not on duty or in areas that have been closed. Closed sections will be marked with signs and/or red flags. There is no charge to access New York City beaches.
