LPC Holds Public Hearing for Designation of Former Whitney Museum and Portions of Interior

On March 11, 2025, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing for the proposed designation of the former Whitney Museum of American Art and parts of the museum’s interior including the lobby, vestibule and staircase. The building, located at 945 Madison Avenue in the Upper East Side, was the home of the Whitney Museum of American Art from its opening in 1966 until 2014. 


City Planning Commission Holds Hearing for City of Yes for Housing Opportunity Zoning Text Amendment

On July 10, 2024, the City Planning Commission held a public hearing for the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity zoning text amendment. The text amendment is the third and final City of Yes amendment proposed by the Adams administration to address outdated provisions within the zoning code that hinder the growth of housing, the economy, and the use of green infrastructure and technology in New York City. 



Landmarks Holds Public Hearing for Frederick Douglass Memorial Park in Staten Island

On May 21, 2024, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public hearing for the Frederick Douglass Memorial Park. The memorial park, located at 3201 Amboy Road in Staten Island, was created in the 1930s to provide a place for the city’s African American population to be buried with dignity and respect at a time where many cemeteries had separate entrances and less desired sections of cemeteries for people based on race.
