On February 23, 2023, the New York City Department of City Planning announced the creation of the Community Planning and Engagement Division within the department. The new division will consist of seven members and is tasked with getting community input on new policy developments handled by the Department of City Planning and related agencies.
City Commits $3.1 Million Over Four Years to Combat Source of Income Discrimination
On March 2, 2023, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development announced that$3.1 million will go towards efforts to combat source-of-income discrimination for New Yorkers who rely on rental assistance. Source-of-income discrimination is an illegal practice by landlords, owners, and real estate brokers who refuse to rent to current or prospective tenants seeking to pay for housing with vouchers, subsidies, or other public assistance.
Parks Dept. Cuts Ribbon on New Park in Highbridge
On March 28, 2023, Parks Commissioner Sue Donoghue and Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson joined community representatives and advocates to celebrate the opening of Corporal Fischer Park, a new park in Highbridge that replaced a formerly empty fenced off lot.
