Mayor Adams Appoints Laura Kavanagh FDNY Commissioner

Kavanagh is the first woman to serve as Commissioner of the Fire Department. On October 27, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams swore in Laura Kavanagh as commissioner of the New York City Fire Department (FDNY). With years of prior experience at the FDNY, most recently as acting fire commissioner, Kavanagh will oversee the department’s 17,000 employees and $2 billion budget.


Parks Department to Build Playgrounds, Open Space at Six NYCHA Developments

The Mayor’s office has invested $23 million across three acres of NYCHA open space. On September 14, 2022, Mayor Eric Adams, the Parks Department, and the NYC Housing Authority (NYCHA) announced a pilot program to invest in nearly three acres of NYCHA open spaces, including playgrounds, across six housing developments. Three of these developments are located in Queens, two in the Bronx, and one in Brooklyn.

Government Leaders and Key Sponsors Celebrate Rebuilding of Crotona Park Soccer Field in the Bronx

The refurbished field will also be the site of ongoing youth soccer programming supported by the project’s sponsor, the UAE embassy. On Friday, May 20, 2022, the NYC Parks Department celebrated completion of the refurbishment of the Crotona Park soccer field in the Crotona Park East neighborhood of the Bronx. The project was originally announced by NYC Parks and Congress Member Ritchie Torres on December 7, 2021.


DOT to Expand E-Scooter Pilot Program to More Areas of East Bronx

Over 480,000 trips have been taken since the program launched last August. On March 24, 2022, the NYC Department of Transportation (DOT) announced that the E-Scooter pilot program which brought e-scooters to parts of the East Bronx last year will expand the pilot program to more neighborhoods across the East Bronx. Through the program, e-scooters from Lime, Bird and Veo are available to rent as an alternative form of transportation.


LPC Launches Interactive Story Map to Commemorate 50th Running of the NYC Marathon
