City Planning Commission Holds Hearing for City of Yes for Housing Opportunity Zoning Text Amendment

On July 10, 2024, the City Planning Commission held a public hearing for the City of Yes for Housing Opportunity zoning text amendment. The text amendment is the third and final City of Yes amendment proposed by the Adams administration to address outdated provisions within the zoning code that hinder the growth of housing, the economy, and the use of green infrastructure and technology in New York City. 


NYCHA, HPD and HDC Celebrate Completion of Nearly 200 Units of Senior Housing in Bed-Stuy

On May 23, 2024, the New York City Housing Authority, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development and the New York City Housing Development Corporation celebrated the completion of the Atrium at Sumner project, a new eleven-story residence for seniors. The new building was constructed on underutilized land at the NYCHA Sumner Houses campus between Park and Myrtle Avenues in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn. 


City of Yes for Housing Opportunity Overview: City Celebrates Start of Public Review Process

On April 29, 2024, the City Planning Commission launched the public review process for the proposed City of Yes for Housing Opportunity text amendment. The text amendment is one of three City of Yes amendments aiming to remove or modify outdated provisions within the zoning text that inhibit economic growth, the ability for developers to build, and the implementation of green technology and infrastructure. 



Governor Announces Funding for Almost 1,100 Affordable Homes Statewide, Including Brooklyn and the Bronx

On April 8, 2024, Governor Kathy Hochul announced $412 million in bonds and subsidies to create and preserve nearly 1,100 affordable homes statewide, including four projects in the Bronx and Brooklyn. The awards are part of the Governor’s five-year $25 billion housing plan to preserve or create 100,000 affordable homes statewide with 10,000 supportive homes. 


HPD Celebrates Opening of 375 Affordable Unit Development in Greenpoint

On April 3, 2024, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development, the New York City Housing Development Corporation, elected officials and project partners celebrated the opening of 35 Commercial Street, a new affordable residential development that is part of Greenpoint Landing in Brooklyn. Greenpoint Landing is a 22-acre site along the East River waterfront that is being master-planned and developed by Park Tower Group, and is expected to have 5,500 total residential units once completed.
