On May 23, 2024, the New York City Council passed a package of bills to improve parking garage safety by identifying and addressing parking garage structural deficiencies. These bills, Int. 135-A, 170-A, and 231-A, were created in response to a parking garage that collapsed at 57 Ann Street in Lower Manhattan on April 18, 2023, which killed garage manager Willis Moore and injured five others.

NYCHA, HPD and HDC Celebrate Completion of Nearly 200 Units of Senior Housing in Bed-Stuy
On May 23, 2024, the New York City Housing Authority, the Department of Housing Preservation and Development and the New York City Housing Development Corporation celebrated the completion of the Atrium at Sumner project, a new eleven-story residence for seniors. The new building was constructed on underutilized land at the NYCHA Sumner Houses campus between Park and Myrtle Avenues in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn.
Updated: City Beaches to Open for Memorial Day Weekend
On Saturday, May 25, 2024, New York City beaches will open for swimming for the summer. During the beach season, lifeguards will be on duty daily from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM. Swimming is not prohibited when lifeguards are not on duty or in areas that have been closed. Closed sections will be marked with signs and/or red flags. There is no charge to access New York City beaches.
