Today, Monday, September 11, 2023, Ken Feinberg, Special Master for the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund, spoke at the 188th CityLaw Breakfast. He spoke on “What is Life Worth?” Professor Ross Sandler, Director of the Center of New York City Law, provided opening remarks. Dean and President of New York Law School Anthony W. Crowell also provided remarks. This breakfast was sponsored by ConEdison, Verizon, and Greenberg Traurig LLP.
Mr. Feinberg spoke about his experiences overseeing the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund. He talked about handling the emotional stress and pressure of working with victims’ families who are dealing with immeasurable grief and pain and the lessons he learned from speaking with families. Mr. Feinberg talked about how 9/11 was a “unique horror” and that the compensation fund was unlikely to be replicated again. He discussed other tragedies that had occurred since 9/11 and the responses to those events. He praised the widespread support of the American people for the purpose of the fund.
