On Friday October 9, 2015, the Center for New York City Law at New York Law School hosted the 129th City Law Breakfast. The speaker was New York Police Department Commissioner William Bratton.
Commissioner Bratton was welcomed by Anthony Crowell, Dean and President of New York Law School and introduced by Ross Sandler, Professor of Law and Director of the Center for New York City Law. Commissioner Bratton discussed coming reforms to police conduct, including the new use-of-force guidelines recently presented to union leadership. The commissioner also addressed implementing de-escalation, conflict resolution, and crisis intervention training, saying 10,000 officers will undergo four days of intensive training in the next year on interacting with the mentally ill. The commissioner emphasized the benefit of advances in technology for how police officers do their jobs and took questions from the standing-room only audience.
