Dept of Finance, Other Agencies to Host Info Sessions for Property Owners Facing Tax Debt

On February 12, 2025, the Department of Finance announced the launch of a series of outreach events to provide support and information for property owners who are at risk of having liens sold on their properties. The events will be held in partnership with other City agencies, the City Council, and non-profits. Property owners can learn more information about how to resolve outstanding property taxes, water and sewer fees, and other similar charges.

The Department of Finance business centers will host evening hours from 5 PM to 7 PM at the following locations:

Bronx Business Center (3030 Third Avenue, 2nd Floor) – Tuesday, March 11th and April 29th

Brooklyn Business Center (210 Joralemon Street) – Wednesday March 12th and April 23rd

Manhattan Business Center (66 John Street) – Tuesday February 25th and April 22nd

Queens Business Center (144-06 94th Avenue) – Wednesday March 5th and April 16th

Staten Island Business Center (350 St. Marks Place) – Tuesday March 4th and Wednesday April 30th

Property owners will be able to get guidance from the Department of Finance, the Department of Environmental Protection, the Center for New York City Neighborhoods and other network partners. Elected officials will also host similar events within their districts.

In addition, the Mayor’s Public Engagement Unit will conduct in-person and phone outreach campaigns and provide direct assistance to help explain options to homeowners, enroll them in property tax exemption programs where applicable, and connect owners with other resources to avoid lien sales. The Public Engagement Unit team can be reached at 929-252-7242. For more info, visit www.nyc.gov/liensale

Finance Commissioner Preston Niblack stated, “This collaborative, multi-agency outreach initiative underscores the City’s commitment to protecting vulnerable homeowners while upholding an effective enforcement mechanism that ensures accountability. Our approach is rooted in fairness and compassion, recognizing the diverse circumstances homeowners face. We strongly encourage at-risk property owners to take advantage of our collective resources by attending an outreach event, where they can access available relief programs, payment plans, and legal aid, empowering them to make informed decisions and better navigate the processes that we have established to help resolve their debt.”
