On August 3, 2022, the Landmarks Preservation Commission announced the launch of their Business Express Service, a one-stop-shop where businesses operating in landmarked buildings can easily get permits. This Landmarks initiative aims to strengthen the City’s pandemic recovery in accordance with the Mayor’s Economic Blueprint.

Following Landmarks’ firsthand visit to the site, West Park was given an additional opportunity to speak in support of their hardship application. On July 19, 2022, the Landmarks Preservation Commission held a public meeting to question the West Park Presbyterian Church about their hardship application. The building is designed in the Romanesque Revival style and located at 165 West 86^th Street in Manhattan.

UPDATE: (7/21/22) The developer began demolition on the Dangler House on July 21, 2022. CityLand will continue to follow this story as it develops.

The owner and a potential developer oppose landmarking, but many community members support saving the French Gothic mansion. Already located within the Park Slope Historic District, the building will now be considered for a designation as an Individual Landmark. On June 28, 2022, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to calendar the Lesbian Herstory Archives for designation. Located at 484 14^th Street in Park Slope, Brooklyn, this French Renaissance Revival-style rowhouse was constructed in 1908 and has housed the Lesbian Herstory Archives since 1991.

The historic districts are the first designations from Landmarks in Cambria Heights. On June 28, 2022, the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to designate Cambria Heights-222nd Street Historic District and Cambria Heights-227th Street Historic District. A late addition to Landmarks’ agenda, the Commission unanimously voted in favor of calendaring the Brooklyn mansion. On June 7, 2022, the Landmarks Preservation Commission voted to calendar the Jacob Dangler House, located at 441 Willoughby Avenue in the Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn for designation.
